Elephant and Castle is a growing community, with exciting hangouts emerging across the area all the time. The latest hide out we’re expecting all the millennials to be heading to is Gameboxx at Lost Rivers Elephant.
Gameboxx, described as the next Four Thieves, is a new entertainment space where those who enter its doors can expect a great afternoon (and likely to carry on well into the evening) of gaming and craft beer. They cater for both older and newer gaming tastes, so expect your vintage classics plus some more recently released titles.
Dive into their many bar games, arcade games, board games and the more recently acquired, Virtual Reality gaming. (Yes, you heard right – VR!) If you’ve been dying to experience this next generation of gaming, then prepare to immerse yourself in one of Gameboxx’s four built in headsets, becoming the second venue in London with VR.
We caught up with Nick Cash, Director at Lost Rivers Brewing Co., about the launch of Gameboxx and what you can expect.
How did the idea to open Gameboxx come about?
We needed a way to keep the site active so that we can continue to run Ted Talks, Open mic nights and the various creative stuff that we host. I’d say we were inspired by The Four Thieves and the realisation that we’re not too old to still play games and have fun! Especially for those who aren’t into computing or tech, I think that Gameboxx appeals to people who miss playing their childhood games and want to trial the new games on the block.
With the launch of Gameboxx, we wanted to bring the fun back into going out and provide the community with alternatives to the standard craft beer pub, offering something that everyone can enjoy. Here, you’ll find something that ticks everyone’s box.
How does Lost River Elephant differ from other venues?
I’d say that gaming is very relevant to the time right now, but what we’ve done at Gameboxx is a different mix to other gaming bars we’ve seen.
Virtual reality gaming is another really exciting part of what we offer here and is only available in one other location in London, primarily at the Four Thieves in Lavender Hill.
What are some of your favourite games that you offer at Gameboxx?
I’d have to say Street fighter is a good one, it’s an arcade game that is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year so I’m sure it will be popular.
Will you be hosting any events in the near future?
Gameboxx is the foundation to Lost Rivers Elephant that will be open 7 days a week, but the site is bigger than Gameboxx. We host monthly community events such as a market, Ted Talks, film screenings and DJ sets. Again, something for everyone!
Can you share some of your other favourite London hangouts?
Corsica studio is right opposite Lost Rivers Elephant, and a place that I like to hang out with my friends if we’re planning a late night out. It’s fun, cultural and has lots of good bands and DJ’s in there.
How can we keep up to date with what’s happening?
