If you’re ever near Elephant and Castle, you should have a nose around The Artwork Elephant! If you don’t already know, it’s a creative hub made from shipping containers, where you’ll find many a hidden gem – from cafes and bars to a flower shop, barbers and yoga studio. This week, we got the lowdown on one of those hidden gems; a film workshop known as The Film Collective. We got talking to Chloe, co-founder of Smashed Screen Films (the company running the workshop) to find out more.

It’s the scariest day of the year. So, in the spirit of things we grilled Matthias Hoene, the director of Cockneys vs Zombies – a blood and gore-filled zombie comedy film set in east London. Our residents watched the film in East Village yesterday while sipping blood cocktails and donning their pearly jacket or blood-soaked overcoat. But to get you all in the mood for Halloween, we grilled Matthias about his inspiration behind the film and most importantly – where he likes to buy his pie and mash.

The year’s biggest free film festival came to East Village last weekend, and it was a resounding success (if we say so ourselves). E20 was home to the East End Film Festival, which was filled with street food, fun free movies, and an extra-special class from Aardman Animation’s Jim Parkyn. Here’s what the Twittersphere said about the day, which was sponsored by Get Living London.

Film, food and footy fans should get ready for a free weekend of fun in East Village next month. The annual East End Film Festival is coming to Stratford’s East Village, where the green open spaces will be transformed into an outdoor community cinema.
