The Great British Bake Off – best bits
It would be wrong for us to dedicate a week to baking and not highlight our favourite moments from cult BBC TV show, The Great British Bake Off. They’ve made us laugh, cry, squeal, mmm, ahhh, and is entirely to blame for us eating cupcakes for breakfast the last few weeks.
We’re not quite sure how we’re going to cope once the series is over, but we’ve taken the time to reminisce and managed to whittle down our top 5 moments for your viewing pleasure.
5. Sue elbowing Howard’s muffin
You saw it, we saw it… That awful moment when Sue Perkins casually leaned on lovely Howard’s muffin, then bravely had to break the news to him. We have to hand it to him, he took it extremely well. We’re not sure we would have been quite so calm about the situation in the circumstances. Thankfully, Howard sweetly accepted the fate of his muffin and he breezed through to the next round.
4. The never-ending innuendos
Mary Berry. Wearer of bright colours. Goddess of baking. Queen of innuendos. This series we’ve seen more soggy bottoms and moist flans than you can shake a rolling pin at. Here’s a select few favourites from the a-bun-dance of innuendos we witnessed this series.
That awkward moment when you steal a bowl of custard from the fridge that isn’t yours, and you get caught. The award for the most distraught contestant this series has to go to Deborah, who’s pain we felt acutely when she “accidentally” stole Howard’s custard. As Sue put it, “it’s either a terrible error or the most incredible case of baking espionage I’ve ever seen.” We couldn’t agree more – well played, Debs. Of course, puns a-plenty from dream team Mel and Sue were sure to follow after this incident…
2. Mary Berry discovering what ‘hemp’ is
Experimental baker Howard wasn’t shy of introducing a few weird and wonderful ingredients to his signature bakes, and his exotic tea loaf which contained hemp flour was no exception. Hemp, (made from the cannabis plant) had Sue fighting fits of giggles as she explained to Mary the origins of the ingredient.
1. The many faces of Ruby
You either love or hate her, but you cannot deny that Ruby has a catalogue of the most interesting facial expressions we’ve ever seen on our screens. So much so in fact, that there’s even a Tumblr page dedicated to the gurnings of the star baker – a strangely hypnotising library of hiliarious gifs displaying the vast range of the young baker’s emotions. We love it.
We couldn’t possibly fit all of our favourites in one post, so feel free to leave your top moments of this series in the comments below!
