With the fear of Uber losing its licence in London, you must be wondering (like us!) how on earth you’re going to make your way around London? Don’t fear, because we’ve been doing our research and have listed the top London travel apps you should download to make sure you can still get from A to B in no time at all.
If you haven’t already got this app, download it now. Citymapper is the ultimate app for all Londoners, detailing the fastest route (and all of the possible alternative routes!) you can take to your destination using the London underground system, trains, buses, taxis. As well as the cycling and walking routes! It even provides you with a ‘rain safe’ route, which always comes in handy in London. The app provides you with the approximate time each route option will take as well as live traffic and transport disruption updates, which are a god-send for avoiding overcrowded stations when you’re in a rush. We wouldn’t go anywhere without it!
Image: Addison Lee
Addison Lee is the most popular premium car service in London and is sure to get customers flocking if Uber is taken away! With Addison Lee you can expect a higher price but, unlike your black cabbies, the company provide a fixed rate beforehand based on a postcode to postcode structure so there’s no surprises. And, unlike Uber, there is no surge in prices during peak times. A blessing! The app also provides an on-demand service, allowing you to easily re-book previous journeys based on your history. Just like Uber, you can track your journey online so that you know how far away from your destination you are and, more importantly, you’re safe.

The Gett Taxi app makes getting a black cab much easier with their on-demand service to hail a cab directly to you in the city. What’s even more convenient about Gett Taxi is the choice of a fixed price or paying by the meter, with the option to pay by cash, card or via the app. Gett Taxi is about more than just getting a quick ride across London, they’ll also collect and return your packages to over 300 retailers for only £1.95.
Image: KabbeeUK Facebook
Kabbee is a ‘compare the market’ style taxi app, comparing prices and booking services of quality minicabs all over London. When you’re looking for a lift, this app gives you several quotes from different cabs for the same journey – perfect for those times where you don’t know the number of a local taxi service and don’t know how much they might cost! Kabbee is all about getting the best for your money and promises to be punctual – going so far as to offer a refund on your ride if your cab doesn’t arrive within 5 minutes. We’ll take a refund over that £5 Uber fee we’ve all had for cancelling a cab that takes a while to arrive!

Alternatively, if the recent disruption to the TFL scene has encouraged you to try some different modes of transport, why not try cycling around London? Making the lifestyle choice to cycle comes with a tonne of benefits; you will be fitter, eco-friendlier and save a lot more money! If you’re up for the challenge, download the Santander Cycles app. Use this app to help you find the nearest docking station with available bikes and empty bays to ditch your wheels at your end journey. Whilst the app doesn’t allow you to reserve a bike yet, you can do that at the docking station when you go to hire one.
