Living in the city, there is certainly no sight of a beach to relax on or a sea to swim in. We often find we have to get imaginative in order to try and cool ourselves down in the summer months! Luckily for us, the concrete jungle we live in isn’t all that concrete; we’ve got Lidos and ponds, cool places to drink, and water fountains to run through. We’ve picked five of the best spots in London where you can certainly keep cool this summer!

Hampstead, NW3 1BP
For a splash on the wild side, why not head over to Hampstead Heath’s infamous ponds? The perfect place to take a dip and take the edge off the blistering heat while enjoying the parkland surroundings. There are ladies’, mens’ and mixed ponds for you to enjoy, with the separate ponds only open on certain days of the year and the mixed bathing pond open all summer long. So, whether it’s going for a chinwag with the ladies or taking the little ones down for a splash around, the Hampstead Heath Ponds are lively and a lovely break from the heat during summer. Station Road, Waltham Cross, EN9 1AB
Why not combine the cool down with trying out a fun activity like Hydrospeeding? For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is you, dressed in a wet suit, with a helmet, gliding through white water rapids on a float (see above for picture). If this doesn’t cool you down, we’re not sure what will! Over at Lee Valley there is a whole host of awesome water activities you can get stuck into in the rapids. Everyone loves fresh water hitting their faces in the heat of the day, don’t they?
Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, Lambeth, SE1 8XX
What may be a slightly unconventional way to cool down may also be the most fun – head to Southbank’s glorious water fountain, Appearing Rooms, by Jeppe Hein. The fountain is an interactive sculpture which can be found on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden. Step inside and the fountain will spurt up water from underneath the grates on which you can stand – time it right to avoid the splash, or go all in and wait for the up-shoot of water. Try it if you dare!

31-33 Heddon Street, Mayfair, W1B 4BN
For the chilliest temperature you’re likely to find during summer in London, visit the Icebar in Mayfair – a unique cocktail experience at -5 degrees centigrade. Head inside for an icy drink of your choice, where you can browse the captivating ‘Wild in the City’ themed sculptures all around the bar. With 40-minute time slots, you’ll be given a thermal cape with gloves to keep you warm throughout your experience. There are different packages available, from Champagne sessions to experiencing the restaurant too. The extensive cocktail list caters for all tastes, check it out and make your booking here.
Hyde Park, S Carriage Dr, W2 2UH
The Serpentine Lido brings a fresh release for city goers who want to relax in London during the hot summer months, and why not when it is located in the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park? With the lido being one of the biggest in the city, measuring a whopping 30 x 100 meters, there’s room for everyone! So, if you’re training for a big swim or just merely want to relax with pals for the weekend, this is definitely a place to be over the summer!
