It came, it saw and it most definitely conquered.
As Londoners start panicking about last-minute Christmas shopping sprees; thoughts of cheering Jessica Ennis onto gold at the Olympic stadium, soggy Jubilee jam sandwiches and the recent ‘ending’ of the Mayan calendar seem a world away already.
This year has been a belter all round and we’ve seen our fair share of action here at London Living.
With that in mind, we thought a 2012 wrap-up was necessary. So, sit back and relax as we take you through our favourite blogging bits of the year.
Amidst the annual post-Christmas hangover, inevitable January blues and a fair bit of snow, we discovered a wonderful London supper club, Dead Dolls Club, at the start of the year. Back at the start of the year, we dined like kings with some blogging friends of ours at their awesome Stew House pop-up. 2012 has subsequently seen DDC go from modest start-up to supper club kings of the Capital in next to no time. You should definitely pay them a visit.
February saw the launch of our blog competition, ‘Win a PA for a day‘, where our very own Henry was practically put up for auction to the London public, the prize allowing for one lucky Londoner to acquire Henry’s services for a whole day at no cost! Here’s how it went (hint: he’s still with us).
The highlight of March had to be our very own East Village exhibition at the NLA. Curated by Peter Murray, the NLA’s chairman, the exhibition aimed to provide Londoners with a tangible taste of what life will be like at East Village, and it was a great success all round. With East Village architects and Eric Pickles for company and a full scale model of East Village on hand, we welcomed an enormous crowd to come and have a glimpse of life at East Village.
And who could forget our Spring-time East Village infographic to celebrate the clocks going forward too?
The warmth of Spring also saw us produce some really rather good Top 5 posts on the blog, covering all matter of things from London’s alternative green spaces to the best Middle-Eastern restaurants, the best taxidermy spots to the top outdoor swimming pools, all here in London. If you haven’t seen any of our Top 5 articles, check them all out here.
This image of Grand Designs guru Kevin McCloud sitting atop our East Village bicycle was snapped at Grand Designs Live, back in May. If you visited the show, you may remember seeing our special East Village pod. Our pod has travelled the length and breadth of London, offering city dwellers a chance to experience a slice of living at East Village. Kevin clearly enjoyed himself as did many other Londoners who visited us.
We don’t need to rabbit on too much about the summer of 2012. Like the rest of the country, we got a full dose of Royal fever here at London Living and wrote some great articles about the Queen and general Jubilee madness over the course of June. We don’t need to remind you how tremendously fantastic the Olympics was, either! Conversing with some of the world’s top athletes about their stay at East Village over Twitter was just awesome.
Let us move swiftly on before the nostalgia gets to us…is that a tear in our eye or just the mulled wine?
In August, we launched our superb London photography competition on Facebook, a chance for Londoners far and wide to submit their best photos of their summer in London. We had over 500 entries and the revered heads at Getty Images were tasked with choosing two eventual winners from the lot – no mean feat. All twenty-five shortlisted entrants had their work displayed at our London Life exhibition at the Getty Images Gallery in Westfield Stratford earlier this month – a well-deserved prize!
This year, we have interviewed more than our fair share of Londoners (too many to name on here, that’s for sure). We’ve grilled some of the best London bloggers in the business and some of the finest local names in the Capital, including some fantastic names such as Sonya Barber, editor of Time Out London‘s blog and Matilda of Cultural Expose.
Why not browse through our collection and soak up the best insider’s info on London right here? Oh, and we have also been grilled ourselves: take a look.
The recent winter months have seen the launch of our new Pinterest page (we even hosted a cool competition there earlier this month) and we’re constantly updating the page with the very best of London imagery. Take a look at it if you’ve not already.
What’s been your favourite moment of 2012? Have we missed anything out? Let us know!
If not, see you in 2013 – East Village’s big year!
