City Cheats: Best London Christmas Dinners

December 16, 2016

Christmas Day is nearly upon us, so it’s high time to start thinking about the all-important roast dinner! The festive roast is way too good to have just once this year, so make sure you’re making the most of all the delectable places in London Town over the next few weeks! We know exactly where you should go for the Christmas dinner that won’t disappoint, so read on…

The Marksman
2554 Hackney Road, London, E27SJ

This old pub on Hackney Road isn’t quite the local it once was since it’s been refurbished, but we love that it’s still kept its character – and we’re even more thankful that their delicious Sunday roasts haven’t lost their magic. (You might even say they’re better than ever.) If you haven’t tasted the delights of their crispy roasties and some well-aged beef served pink, then pop down this Sunday. If you’d rather hold out on the roasts this month until the big day, book your table now for a serving of pot roast ham, duck or roast rib. To see what else they will be serving up, take a peek at their Christmas menu.

Roast
The Floral Hall, Stoney Street, London, SE1 1TL

Looking over London’s iconic Borough Market is Roast, loved by diners and drinkers alike. Roast prides itself on using the finest seasonal produce from British farmers and many of the ingredients used come from Borough Market’s very own stalls. If you love a traditional Christmas dinner (and who doesn’t?), then you will love this Victorian-themed feast designed by head chef Stuart Cauldwell. You’ll discover pressed pig’s head with parsnip toffee, Yorkshire venison or Victorian goose and traditional sticky date pudding, to name just a few… To take a look at more of the dishes on offer and to book yourself in to feast like a king, head on over to Roast’s website.

Hixter
16 Great Guildford St, London, SE1 0HS

If you rate your roasts by the meat and size of your Yorkshire pud, then look no further because we’ve got a whopper for you! The Hixter (one of the many Hix restaurants) major in meat and devote themselves to chicken and steak. This means they serve amazing roast dinners where your meat is most certainly the main event! Fancy yourself half a chicken or a large slab of pink-centred sirloin served with stuffing, roast potatoes and a generous Yorkshire pudding? Get to Hixter. And because it’s Christmas and the Hixter really likes putting on a sizable dish, go with a group to try their festive feasts – so big they’re designed for sharing! What better way to bring everyone together this season?

King Eddie’s
47 Broadway, Stratford, E15 4BQ

King Eddie’s is a 19th Century pub set in the heart of Stratford. We love the character this pub has with its low ceilings and open fires; it’s really the perfect place to go on a Sunday to enjoy a roast dinner. At King Eddie’s you’re sure to get simple, rustic comfort food with high quality sourced produce – they even make their own pies, sauces, soups and bake their own bread every day. Why not stay and join in their Sunday night quiz at 7.30pm and enjoy some of their more unusual British beers!
