Next week, temperatures in London are expected to climb back up to a tropical 21 degrees, which we say is a perfectly reasonable excuse for ice cream! But we’re not talking any ice cream – we’re talking about the softest, creamiest, tastiest gelato outside of Italy. Artisan maker, La Gelatiera, has just opened its second branch in Stratford’s East Village, and trust us when we say – it’s seriously upping the gelato game.

La Gelatiera’s first parlour in Covent Garden has become somewhat of a worshipping ground for gelato lovers far and wide; with their large and loyal fan base testament to the love that goes into every scoop. Four years since its launch and the demand for a second parlour has allowed owner, Antonio, to open a second branch in E20.
The authenticity of this place links back to Antonio’s upbringing. The maestro himself grew up in southern Italy where he learnt the trade from his gelateria grandfather, before bringing his skills to the UK. Combining these real Italian techniques with unique flavour combinations, La Gelatiera has cracked the secret to producing some of the best gelato London has ever licked. And the proof is in the gold! Over the past four years, these guys have picked up a number of awards for their exquisite creations.

So what exactly makes La Gelatiera gelato so special? It all comes down to the quality, care and attention to detail that Antonio and his team put into it. They operate a ‘Slow-Food philosophy’, meaning only the freshest ingredients are used, and everything is handmade daily on the premises. To top it all off, the gelato is egg and gluten-free and contains no artificial flavourings or colourings, making it a healthier way to get your ice cream kick.
Similar to their flagship shop, the new East Village spot comprises a gelato theatre/lab, where customers can come and watch the gelato being made, as well as a comfortable café area to eat it in! The ever-evolving menu features some of La Gelatiera’s signature concoctions, such as honey, rosemary & orange zest, as well as some usual classics, such as pistachio. There is also a fully vegan sorbet menu alongside a menu of waffles, crepes, patisseries and Italian-inspired drinks, so we have no doubt you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Are you screaming for ice cream? You’ll find the new La Gelatiera at 1 West Park Walk, East Village, Stratford, E20 1DH. To find out more or to dribble over their menu, head over to the La Gelatiera website!
