The upcoming Mind Body Spirit Festival on 24 – 27 May 2019 in Hammersmith, London is a four day festival fuelled by a desire for people to discover the spirit within and open themselves up to possibilities previously only dreamed of. It is a home for spiritual seekers and pilgrims from across the globe, offering them a safe place to commune, share ideas, beliefs and philosophies. Today, it remains the largest and longest running event of its kind in the world.
Along with bestselling authors, leading organisations and pioneers who will be speaking at the festival, Kwali Kumara will be curating and hosting the ‘Ceremony Space’ – a deep and mystical space filled with free ceremonial based experiences who will offer a generous and eclectic array of hour long sessions led by outstanding teachers, tribal leaders, shamans and healers.
As part of this week’s Wellness Wednesday series, our Editor Katharine Walsh caught up with Kwali Kumara to find out more on what the Ceremony Space has to offer!
Mind Body Spirit
How exciting that you will be a part of the Mind Body Spirit festival for the fifth year in a row. Can you tell us a little bit more about what visitors are expected to see and feel when they visit the Ceremony Space?
The Ceremony Space is a deliciously decorated cosmic womb, lovingly hosted and curated by myself with a huge variety of guest speakers and facilitators. It’s a calm oasis for when you need to take time out from the excitement of the festival. The offerings are all FREE and the space acts as a sanctuary to relax and recharge. There is a vast selection of exciting magical teachers to choose from. It is a melting pot of mystical offerings with an array of different sacred circles and intimate ceremonial based experiences to enjoy. My beautiful soul sister Maren and I will be holding space for you all weekend so come and join us for love ceremony and sacred community.
What type of activities will take place in the Ceremony Space over the four day festival?
There is a broad selection of ceremonies and healing modalities including Theta, Sekhem, Sacred Sound, Womb Wisdom, Aura modelling, Akashic records, Crystals, Mantra, Kundalini yoga & Meditation, Shamanic Journeying, Cacao, Shakti & Ecstatic dance, Elemental & Ancestral healing, Goddess circles and so much more. I have tried to be as eclectic as possible to cover a broad variety of mystical offerings to give our guests a sanctuary full of holistic wonders.
It will be my first time attending the Mind Body Spirit Festival and I am SO excited. What sessions would you recommend I attend in the Ceremony Space?
I honestly think that every single ceremony will be fantastic in its own unique way, there really is something for everyone and it all depends on what you are into.
Some people come to the festival and stay the whole time in the ceremony space because it has such a cozy vibe.
It’s intimate and interesting offerings have the potential to keep you busy all weekend so it’s good to plan your days before you arrive to make sure you catch everything you want to experience. Maren are I are both hosting a couple of ceremonies over the long weekend, so we recommend readers to come and try one of those. I’m also going to be on the stage sharing some of my new mantra music and teaching kundalini yoga and the Gong workshop in the yoga space on Sunday so hopefully we will get to meet and share space together.
Can you tell us a little bit more on how you got involved with the Mind Body Spirit Festival and what it is you love about it so much?
I have always loved the festival as a visitor, the fact it has been going over forty years shows how much people enjoy what it has to offer. I was super excited when I was invited to teach a kundalini yoga workshop five years ago and I fell in love with the vibe and the crew. I used to work in the festival scene and I realised how much I missed being in the environment, I was invited back to teach and then I mentioned to the director how wonderful it would be to have a space that was dedicated to ceremony and shamanic activities and as if by magic the following year he offered me the opportunity to curate a yurt and the ‘ceremony space’ was born.
What tips would you give our London Living readers who are struggling to feel relaxed and recharged in the busyness of London life?
It’s becoming more and more evident that the ancient arts of Sound healing and Sacred Ceremony are rebirthing and flourishing as the new modern medicine. In our current state of overwhelm and information overload, we are in desperate need of an antidote to the adverse effects of modern day living. Ceremony and Sacred Sound are easy and accessible healing modalities as no matter what your faith, shape, size, strength, or ability you can always enjoy a sound journey or gong healing experience. It gets you into a meditative state quickly and easily and in this fast paced world that is a very big blessing.
I just read that your back from hosting ‘The Dark Goddess ‘ retreat! How amazing! Do you have any upcoming events / retreats in London you would like to share with our readers?
We are hosting another retreat in September on the autumn equinox weekend so we have some places left on that if you feel inspired to work with ‘The goddess and the green man’. We are also hosting some sound journey events together at Evolve wellness centre and will be teaching as some festivals throughout the summer before Maren disappears back to Guatemala, so make sure you keep connected with us via our websites. Wishing you Love light and a blissful summer.
