‘Tis the season to get in the Christmas spirit! Whilst we know there is 23 more days until December, London’s community and Christmas enthusiasts are getting ready to flick the switch and light up the seasonal streets of London. Each with their own theme and messaging, they promise to glow, sparkle and shimmer for the rest of 2019.

The first set of lights are being turned on this festive period is in Carnaby and it is definitely worth a visit to marvel at the creative display. Consisting of 12 streets, you will not be disappointed. Following on from the Bohemian Rhapsody illuminations last year, this year we will be going under water with an ocean theme. Collaborating with Project 0, this sustainable light display with use over 1,500 recycled plastic bottles and you definitely don’t want to miss the 5m long whale that blows bubbles on visitors!

In its seventh year, Kew Gardens return with its magical Christmas lights display, with the added bonus of a new route to take and new light installations. As glittering lights around the trees frame the walk, be prepared to see the iconic Temperate House lit up by laser projections. Firm favourites will return with the tunnel of light taking you on a magical journey all to the sound of the holly bushes signing.

2019 marks a special occasion for Regent Street as it is its 200th year anniversary. With this in mind, the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ theme will return once again this year with spirits lighting up one of London’s most famous roads. The road will be completely pedestrianised to allow for family fun and entertainment, and you can even start your festive shopping early! Be prepared to be surprised with a few spectacles both inside the shops and out on the streets. You can watch the lights be switched on between 5pm-6.30pm.

Whilst we expected new Christmas lights last year, due to an unfortunate event involving Crossrail, this year is the year they will be finally revealed! Say goodbye to the baubles and hello to 27 LED curtain lights made up to 220,000 lights all 90% more energy efficient than normal Christmas lights. In partnership with capital XTRA, expect to see performances from hip-hop, RnB and grime artists all to the backdrop of your favourite shops open for Christmas shopping.
