It’s the end of half term. If you’re a parent you’re probably feeling pretty exhausted. If you don’t have kids, you’re probably still feeling exhausted after trying to battle your way through the hordes of families on day trips to London as you struggle through your commute.Luckily we’ve compiled a list of things going on this weekend to celebrate the kids going back to school, most of which involve some much-needed alcohol.
Craft Beer Rising, The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane (Friday, 21 February – Sunday, 23 February)
The Old Truman Brewery hosts the annual Craft Beer Rising festival for a weekend of street food, live music and of course delivering the finest craft beers in the land to the masses. You’ll get the chance to meet the brewers, who pride themselves on the full flavour of their beers rather than the bland, generic watered down lagers that you’ll find in most watering holes across the country. Tickets cost £15 – check out the website for more details.
New Orleans brunch, Gillett Street, Dalston (Saturday, 22 February – Sunday, 23 February)
Sassafras is not just a fun word to say – it’s also a fun thing to do this weekend. For one weekend only, Dalston Pond (a renovated factory off Gillet square) will be transformed into the Deep South by supper club Sassafras. Expect live music from New Orleans, a cocktail bar and a brunch that makes our stomachs dance with happiness just thinking about it (it’ll include all kinds of eggs, Bloody Marys, sweet pan perdu, strong, steaming coffee and soft buttermilk biscuits). If brunch is your thing then you can’t miss this bad boy out. Pick up tickets here.
England vs Ireland double-whammy, Twickenham Stadium, Whitton Road, Twickenham (Saturday, 22 February)
Enjoy two rugby matches for the price of one this weekend as both the men’s and women’s England rugby teams take on Ireland at Twickenham Stadium. The women’s team will be taking to the turf after the men’s game (6.20pm), and the great news is it’s free to watch. If you fancy adding a bit of Twickenham glamour to your day then you have to check out the Bollinger Bar and Garden. We’ll probably just have a pie and a pint.
Have a lovely weekend!
