Seeing as the East Village community is growing by the day, we tracked down one of its new residents to find out what brought her to the former Olympic Village and what she likes most about her home.
We spoke to 25-year-old singer Ashleigh K who moved into a spacious two-bedroom apartment with her husband David Philbey and son
last month and rents through Triathlon Homes. The pop and electronic starlet, who moved to Stratford from Bow, told us she picked her home because of its iconic London location, and because she wanted her son to grow up in such an exciting village.
East Village has a lot to offer its residents – including spacious homes, large green spaces and outstanding sports, shopping and health facilities on its doorstep. What are your favourite things about living here?
The views of London and the fact that it is already an iconic place in London. It has everything we could need close by, including Chobham Academy, The Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre and Westfield London Shopping Centre. It is full of opportunity and a very exciting place to live. It’s also very welcoming – everyone seems very friendly and helpful.
Where do you like to go in London for fun? Are you a local east London person, or do you jump on the Tube and head to the West End?
I do like to do the local things in the East End like going to pubs and eating pie and mash but I also love to go to a nice bar or club in the West End. I stick to Westfield now though for my shopping!
Is it exciting to be part of the London 2012 legacy?
It is very exciting to be part of the London 2012 legacy and I am very thankful I have had the opportunity to move here. I am excited for my son too as there is so much opportunity for him to grow up in such an exciting village.
Your job sounds very glamorous. Tell us about your singing.
I sing pop and electronic music in London and around the UK. In June 2013 I toured Salento in Italy, which was sponsored by my clothes designer Umberto Bruno.
I have sung at venues including Westfield Stratford Shopping Centre, Underbelly Hoxton, Roadtrip Bar and the Workshop, Aura Mayfair, The Garage Islington, The Water Rats and O2 Academy Islington.
Ashleigh, who started singing aged just six, is getting ready to perform in Soho, Maidenhead and Islington over the next few months. We wish her the best of luck and are glad she is enjoying her new home!
