Perched on the edge of Victoria Park, The People’s Park Tavern has always been a popular drinking and socialising spot for the masses. Already boasting a huge beer garden complete with bustling ‘garden grill’, a microbrewery and full-blown dining room, the guys at this London treasure have done it again by opening an onsite tap room and off licence.
Curating over 50 of the very best beers from around the world in cans, bottles and draft, this multi-functional addition to the pub is a reflection of just how important good quality brews are to this watering hole. General Manager, Justin Hutton, is even nicknamed the ‘Beer Beagle’ for having an uncanny knack of being able to find good craft beer anywhere in the world, so you pretty much know you’re in safe hands.
The line-up, carefully handpicked by the pub’s two resident beer geeks, instantly puts The People’s Park into our list of London’s best drinking spots and beer shops. Keg beer is on four rotating lines, focusing on unusual and experimental ales so you’re sure to find something you haven’t tried before.
The pair are most excited about Hitachino Espresso Stout which is widely regarded as one of the best espresso stouts out there, as well as beers from Prancing Pony (one of the best small batch breweries from Adelaide, Australia), Three Boys and Yeastie Boys, two of the best craft breweries from New Zealand.
After sampling what’s on offer from the tap room, visitors can choose to take their favourites home by creating their own bespoke six pack in the brand new off licence. And don’t worry if you feel clueless on where to start – with their knowledge and expertise, the staff are more than willing to assist with finding the right flavours for your palate.
Beer not to your taste? Despite being complete beer buffs, this place doesn’t discriminate and caters to all tastes, stocking a range of local craft spirits from the likes of East London Liquor Company and Half Hitch. The guys have even built a new cocktail bar and gallery space in a container in the garden for those who favour spirits over pints.
Decked out with a Nintendo 64, vinyl sounds and even a bar billiards table, the new Tap Room at The People’s Park Tavern makes for a perfect hangout spot when the weather’s dim. Head to 360 Victoria Park Road, E9 7BT between 5pm – 12pm Sunday – Thursday and 12pm – close Friday – Saturday to try it for yourself!
