When Sunday arrives, there are only two things our appetite craves – roast dinners and market grub! Since it’s been too hot to fire up the oven lately, we couldn’t be more excited about the brand new food and craft market which has just launched in Stratford’s East Village. We hope you’re hungry, because this is a weekend feast you won’t want to miss!
Over recent months, the former Athletes’ Village of the London 2012 Olympics has seen a flurry of independent retailers set up shop in its grounds. From a contemporary fish & chips joint to an award-winning gelato – the area is quickly becoming a serious haven for foodies north of the river. And last week, things got even tastier as their new Sunday food and craft market launched – an exciting fixture for the summer months!
The ever-rotating line-up of stall holders includes a combination of resident East Village retailers and a selection of London’s most talented traders – guaranteeing endless choice and a wide range of flavours. A couple of names on the bill include Yorkshire-born Kickstarter Proper Good Pies, with their no-nonsense pies, peas, pickle and mash, and good-for-you ice-lolly makers Paleta Girls, so you can cool off with a sugar (and guilt)-free lolly! Modern brewers ZigZag Teas will also be keeping you all well hydrated with their specialty loose leaf teas.
You’ll even be able to stock up on your weekly veg from home-growers, Ted’s Veg. As well as food, there will be a range of gifts and crafts to purchase from the likes of Earls of East London – a locally sourcing producer of home décor and accessories!
The market is held in the village’s Victory Park, offering a spacious area to mooch at the produce and plenty of glassy spots to flop on when the food coma strikes! Then once you’ve finished sampling your way along the stalls, it’s just a short stroll if you wish to explore the grounds of the Olympic Park – the perfect way to spend a Sunday if you ask us!
Sunday grumbles kicking in? Tuck in at the E20 market, which will run from 11am – 4pm every Sunday throughout summer in Victory Park, Victory Parade, East Village, E20. For more information, including a full list of retailers, check out the East Village website.
